One of the best parts of Kindergarten is learning to read. In Kindergarten we use a program that teaches phonemic awareness, basic decoding and comprehension skills. This method stresses letter sounds, blending the sounds together to make words, answering questions about pictures, following directions, and responding to a variety of questions based on the stories. We work on pre-reading skills such as sound pronunciation, sequencing, oral blending, rhyming, and symbol identification. Our small group phonics lessons are one of our favorite parts of each day.
